For more than 25 years RIFCON GmbH is an independent scientific consulting company offering comprehensive professional services for the registration of synthetic and biological plant protection products. Our head office is located in Hirschberg near Heidelberg in Germany. About 200 employees offer services ranging from complete EU registration packages, general consultancy work to sophisticated GLP field studies and various combinations of these elements. For our Environmental Fate (Efate) team located in Hirschberg or Ludwigshafen / Germany we are looking for an experienced Environmental Fate / Modelling Scientist in full-time.

These tasks are waiting for you

  • Environmental fate risk assessment for biological and chemical plant protection products (calculation of predicted environmental concentrations in soil, groundwater, surface water, air…) and reporting
  • Preparation of dossiers for authorization of active substances and plant protection products according to European and national requirements
  • Evaluation and monitoring of laboratory and field studies on substance behaviour (e.g. kinetic evaluation of degradation studies to derive half-lives)
  • Analyses of studies and data packages for guideline compliance and data gaps
  • Close cooperation with our clients, scientific units and regulatory authorities
  • Project management and strategic consultancy, development of higher tier strategies for refinement after an extensive ‘on-the-job’ learning phase

You convince us with

  • Scientific background (geoecology, environmental sciences, geography, geoscience or similar)
  • Professional experience in environmental fate modelling in either consultancy, authority or industry preferred; motivated candidates with professional experience as study director for environmental fate studies might also be considered for the position.
  • Knowledge of environmental fate modelling (water and substance transport models, FOCUS models) and behaviour of chemicals in the environment (e.g. degradation kinetics, sorption isotherms)
  • Experience with Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 would be advantageous
  • Very good working knowledge of MS office tools; experience with programming languages (e.g. R or Python) would be an asset
  • Very good level of written and spoken English, additional languages (especially German) are advantageous
  • Self-motivation, problem-solving skills and diligent style of working
  • Excellent communication and team player skills
